Grown up life

Wow, 4 months and a few weeks.  I can't believe it's been that fast and yet such a short amount of time.  Oh my goodness, I'm turning into a parent (I hear them say that all of the time).

Wait, what am I saying?  I already am a parent.  I have been one basically since I found out I was pregnant a little over a year ago.  I was one when I gave up caffeine for the baby's safe development.  I was one when I justified drinking it again (ah, he'll be fine, research is conflicting, he'll probably have asthma anyway, SAM).  I was a parent when I cried for Chaco's sake that she wouldn't be as doted on (oh shoot, maybe I've been a parent since we got the dog...she's a DOG, Julie).  I was a parent when I'd get so mad at bad driver's because they could hurt Russell.  I was a parent when, even though I didn't want to be pregnant anymore, I treasured feeling him inside me, stretching away.  And that's just when I was pregnant.

If my younger self could see what my "grown up" life is like right now, she'd laugh because it is nothing like what she thought...well, I guess some parts are.

a) Grown up Julie drinks coffee as she watches LIVE! with Kelly (just like Mom)
b) Grown up Julie has a full time job and doesn't just stay home with the baby
c) Grown up Julie and her husband pop each other's pimples after the baby goes to bed
d) Grown up Julie and her husband sit on the couch with the tv off and play Bejeweled Blitz and compare scores and strategies (yes, that is unfortunately true).

I honestly don't know what I pictured when I was younger, but like I said, this doesn't match up with it.  And you know what?  I don't care.  It's so much better!  God has truly blessed me with an amazing husband, a sweet sweet little boy, a great dog, family, friends, and a job that I love (amongst other things).  I know better than to make my own plans and I'm so thankful that God has so much more planned for me than I can imagine - even if it does include a Dungeons and Dragons playing hubbie and a baby with the smelliest gas around.

Back to work

Boo hoo!!  I started back to work this week.  My emotions were so jumbled over this event in the lives of the Theismanns.  I was excited to see my friends and work with my patients again.  I love being a nurse and I love taking care of sick kiddos.  However, I did not want to leave my baby, even though he's in good hands (I have a fantastic husband by the way).  I was also and still am stressing out about how I'm supposed to sleep during the day with a baby who doesn't like to take long naps.

Of course I cried on my drive the first (and second) night back.  I was thinking about why I cried on my way to work then but not when I had to go in before or when we left him with a babysitter.  I figured out it's because I don't have a choice anymore.  I have to go to work and it's harder to return to him if need be.  I know that Sam is completely capable of taking care of the little guy, but I've been his primary caregiver up to this point.  It's weird not knowing everything about him anymore.

Today (my third night back to work) was great at first.  I didn't cry on my way in and I got to sleep quite a bit (5.5 hours which is awesome for a night shifter).  However, when I got to work, I discovered that one of my patients was wearing a sleeper that Sawyer has.  I might have shed a tear or two.  Then later (about 30 minutes ago), I was looking at this same patient as he slept and admiring his little feet like I do Sawyer's and let's just say, I had to excuse myself to go make milk for my baby.  Oh geez...it's hopeless.

Well, I better finish this up and get back to work.  I'm excited for a couple days at home with my baby and husband before work on Sunday.  Adios!

Ringing' in 2012

Happy 2012! I can't believe how fast 2011 flew by-maybe it helped that I've been counting most of it in weeks. Who knows. The Theismanns have experienced so many changes this year which is pretty much par for course for us.

So let's do a 2011 recap:
 January - nothing? Oh good
February - positive pregnancy test, move into Brentwood Corners
March - find out we're going to be an aunt and uncle
 April - tame
May - Sam's brother Trevor moves in, discover Pinterest
June-August - find out we're having a boy, live part of the week at camp, part at Brentwood
September - Sam starts EMT classes
October - Sawyer Gabriel is born, get used to being a family of three
November - holidays start
December - Luke Alexander Watson is born

I never do New Years resolutions because I can never think of anything I'm that passionate about doing. I could try the 365 days of pictures but we all know how that goes. I will leave you with a picture though.

We started out 2012 with two parties. The first was the Lea's Annual New Years' Eve party. The second was a New Years' Day Recovery party for the Youthfront Teen Staff and Summer Staff. Both were a blast. This is what my boys wore to the New Years' Eve party :) Sawyer is obviously excited for his first ugly Christmas Sweater party

Talking to Mom

My baby recognizes me.  I'm saying that as a definite even though I'm not sure.  It seems like it.  He'll smile at me when we make eye contact like I'm a familiar (not quite at Sam yet all of the time).  I love it.

He's also starting to coo and "talk" to us.  It's so great and we get to see smiles so much more.

Sawyer has a youtube channel so you can view some videos of him.  They're probably only exciting for me to see, but hey, at least it's another place they are saved, right? :)  Send me a message if you want to view the videos (I made them private).

We went to the Picture People today because I had a coupon for a picture package.  Ended up spending a lot more than the $18 deal.  It was funny to watch Sawyer give Karen the photographer looks as he wasn't impressed by her tactics to get him to smile.  However, he did really well with the pictures on his tummy pretty much preferring them.  And I leave you with one:

Oops

Welp....if I ever need to change my blog address again, I will remember to:

- make a new address instead of changing the old one
- tell people the new address before the old is gone
- copy my blogroll because I totally lost it

New Web address

Welp, it's probably about time to update my blog name and web address.  I don't know how smooth the transition will be but we have to include Sawyer somehow.  Any ideas for blog addresses?  I'm stumped.
